This work was created as a means of preserving our cultural heritage. It is a drawing of an African mask used to represent Obalufon Alayemore of Ile-Ife, a revered king known for his exceptionally long reign and remembered as a ruler of peace, prosperity, and artistic excellence during a golden age in Yoruba history. Obalufon is also honored as the patron of brass casting, textile development, good governance, and is regarded as the founder of the Ogboni society. Through this piece, I seek to keep history alive by visually documenting a significant cultural symbol that can serve as a point of reference for future generations who desire a deeper understanding of their roots and heritage.
